Animated Comedy "Despicable Me" tops in UK Box Office



Animated comedy ‘Despicable Me’, about a plot to steal the moon, has debuted at the top of the UK box office earning £3.6m in tickets sales. The film stars the voices of Steve Carell, Julie Andrews and Russell Brand.

‘The Social Newtork’, which tells the story of how Facebook began, has entered in second place with takings of £2.4m ahead of ‘Vampires Suck’ at three and last week`s number one movie ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps’ fell to fourth place. The Oliver Stone film, starring Shia LeBouef and Michael Douglas, is the sequel to the director`s 1987 movie Wall Street. Katherine Heigl`s latest movie, ‘Life As We Know It’, rounded off the top five, followed by ‘The Town’, Ben Affleck`s second as a director, in sixth place. British movie ‘Made In Dagenham’, which tells the tale of the real-life events in 1968 when almost 200 women at Ford`s Dagenham factory went on strike, held steady in seventh spot.

‘The Other Guys’, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg fell four places to number eight. At number nine was ‘The Death And Life Of Charlie St Cloud’ starring Zac Efron, and Julia Roberts` latest movie ‘Eat Pray Love’ rounded off the week`s top 10, slipping from last week`s eight.
